Enjoyment Of Dancing Trough The Years

By Peggy Ryersen

Dancing is a fun activity for people of all ages. In fact, even as a toddler dancing is something that can provide a great deal of joy and excitement. The truth is that dancing is something that you can do through the years as you get a bit older. However, you may be wondering what you should do to continually improve on your dancing.

Dance lessons are available for many different levels and ages. For young children dance lessons can be really helpful. Typically you can find lessons that contain dance, tumbling, and creative movement for younger children. All of these classes will help give the child the exercise that they need in addition to helping them to develop their motor skills, which is very important. Additionally, dance lessons for this age group will help them to increase their exposure and appreciation of different types of music. This intern can help to improve a child's rhythm and individual musicality.

A way that dance lessons also come in handy is for those school dances that can be a source of anxiety. Teenagers get worried that they will embarrass themselves in front of friends and others so if they had lessons they would be more confident. Generally two types are learned and they are the basic slow dance and a bit more upbeat style. Hip hop is another available option.

As people grow up to adulthood, it is often a problem that exercise takes a back seat. There are many reasons not to exercise, such as working, taking care of kids, cleaning a house or just too tired from all those tasks. Therefore, it becomes even more important to find an enjoyable way to get in some exercise and that can be achieved by dancing.

Dance lessons are a great form of exercise, but part of that is because you are accountable for your attendance. However, chances are that you are going to want to go because they are quite simply fun. When choosing dance lessons you can find one in almost any style of dance. Some of the more popular choices are ballet, tap, hip hop, jazz, and ballroom dance. Basically, whatever style interests you is what you can study.

A benefit of dance lessons you didn't realize is that it is a great meeting place. Whether it is new friends or perhaps if you are in the dating scene, it is a great bonus for your social life. Not only single people but married couples can have some fun and get together and make it a date night. All you need to do besides dance is throw in a dinner and enjoy your perfect evening. - 29874

Dance As A Performing Art

By Peggy Ryersen

Every single civilization out there, whether it be ancient or modern is going to acknowledge that dance happens to be an art form, which needs one of the top positions in highly sophisticated and technical forms of expressing emotion.

A dance may just be a rhythmic swaying of your body, to the music or it might be a violent and passionate communication form of what cannot be seen, but has to be felt. If you understand this sort of feeling, you will be able to express yourself in dance wordlessly.

Dance starts off with a gathering of people. They come together to express emotions like joy, hurt or sorrow, but these dance forms then turn into trends. Dancing trends do not have to be classical in nature, but they can evolve into a new form that is a reflection of the traditional, cultural or social views of the time.

In earlier times, the waltz was considered to be a "hot" dance just because the man puts his arm around his dance partner's waist. Things have changed since then. Now nobody thinks twice about a couple dancing erotically, such as is the case with the tango.

There are two accepted general forms of dance. It is said that each dance form belongs to one of two different types of schools. The dance types that have remained the same, more commonly referred to as traditional dancing, includes dances like the waltz. However, it is hard to imagine hip hop dancing to this old classical type! On the flip side of things, it is just as difficult to imagine dancing a waltz to jazz music. Nevertheless, some people still believe that the two forms of dance can be combined to create inspirational and unique performances.

Orsino was willing to dance to the tune of love and was also quoted as saying "if music be the food of love play on". Dance and music are linked together so tightly that most cannot imagine one without the other. However, there are forms of dance that can be performed without music, such as tap dancing. Tap dancing seems to make its own rhythmic music as if the dancer is dancing to a silent tune only he or she can hear. Likewise, a musical performance can be conducted without having to add dancing to the show.

With new kinds of music coming out, it is only natural that new dance forms will develop. There are no limits on dance forms and that also means that a style is not just restricted to one era or that an old dance form can not reappear in a new style.

Fortunately, the art form of dance will be with us eternally. It has the power to make you want to get up off your feet and move to the music. You can do whatever moves suit you at the time. We could quite possibly be doing the same dancing that was done thousands of years earlier! In the end it does not matter if you can dance or not, just go with the flow of the music and you are dancing! - 29874

Break Into Ballet

By Sarah Wilkiamson

Whether you consider ballet an art or sport, it would be an understatement to say that it is going to be hard. There also will be several obstacles to overcome with one being fitness. Most people who think they are in shape soon realize they are mistaken and a little test you can do is to stand on your toes and give yourself a twirl and if you are not dizzy or in pain, congratulations!

When it comes to ballet, the word practice can't be emphasized enough! If you want to get anywhere, even if making it to the competitive level is not your goal, practice is the key even if you feel you are not making any progress. Another thing to keep in mind is proper diet and exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In order to be in shape and to be able to perform everyday if need be, you are going to have to be on a high-energy diet to have strength to keep up because, frankly, it is an extremely demanding activity.

The right shoes are also an important part of ballet. Although some dancers choose to wear soft shoes, the beginners usually choose the pointe shoes. This is because the pointe shoes keep the foot upright and that will help you to build up strength in your toes. Even though some ballet forms don't require a lot of movements on toes, you will find that being able to do so will help with traditional ballet dance lessons. Regardless of which type of shoes you end up choosing, ballet will help to keep you physically fit and that will leave you feeling good.

Those aiming to be competitive ballet dancers should be able to show energy while performing. It is not enough to just be there, because it will be necessary to show the audience that you like what you are doing and to be energetic in your performance. The ultimate goal of any ballet performer is to make the audience believe you are the only dancer and that is something that can be very difficult to do.

So what should you wear to your dance class? For the typical dance class you would wear the standard leotard and tights. Dancers choose this outfit because form fitting clothing allows for the most amount of mobility. If you need to go to a recital then you would choose something a little more fancy such as a tutu. Normally this all really depends on your dance instructor and what their requirements are.

This has only mentioned a few of the frequently asked questions, just a few of the basic beginner ones, with yet many more. It goes without saying you will first need an experienced teacher and that should not be problematic if you live in or near a large city. Those in more rural areas may have to look a little harder. - 29874

By Lanny Carver

The Juilliard college is a center for music and the performance humanities that has provided the world the highest caliber of artists from musicians, actors, to dancers for centuries now. Juilliard's first consideration is to foster an environment of fantastic dexterity for scholars to hone and prepare them for a successful career in music and the performing humanities.

Actually, Juilliard faculty has produced numerous outstanding personalities in the fields of drama, dance and music. The first Superman actor Christopher Reeve, Laura Linney of The Truman Show, Marcia Cross of Desperate Housewives, comedian and actor Robin Williams of Good Morning Vietnam, and Sara Ramirez of grey's Anatomy are just a few of its produced talents.

From its primary students of a hundred, it has ballooned to a few hundreds more, which showed the enlarging demand for fine quality musical coaching in the USA. As a consequence, the college originally located at the fifth and twelfth Street moved to its Claremont Avenue location. Juilliard faculty then got its name as a part of its metamorphosis. It also resulted to the founding of Juilliard Graduate faculty.

Due to the unexpected increase in the quantity of enrollees, Juilliard resorted to separating its classes into many divisions as drama, music, dance, precollege, evening, college, and the Music Advancement program. Anyone that wants to be in the ranks of the great Juilliard graduates should be ready to pass the competitive auditions in selected cities around the US. Their performances will be rated by the members of the faculty.

Juilliard has been part of history in the performance humanities arena. In 2006, Juilliard was awarded a trove of precious music manuscripts from the multi-millionaire collector Bruce Kovner. This includes advised proofs and first editions of the major works of Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, Mozart, Schubert, and many others. This is a suggestion of Juilliard's fantastic collection of music and how it won its reputation as the number 1 music college in the US. - 29874

A Short Story About African Music

By Frank Mar

African music is arguably the most influential music in all of mankind. But it did not come out of a vacuum.

The truth is that different regions of Africa were influenced by a number of foreign musical traditions. For example, many nations in North Africa can trace their more recent musical lineage back to the Greeks and Romans who once governed over the area. Later there was also a substantial Middle Eastern influence on their music.

Other parts of the African continent were similarly affected by foreign music. Parts of East Africa and the offshore islands were influenced by Arabic music and Indian music in more recent times. While Southern, Central and West Africa had been influenced by the music of North America and Western Europe.

Other African music can be attributed to specific dance forms such as the rumba and salsa, which were founded by African slaves who settled in Latin America and the Caribbean. In this article we will be exploring the different kinds of African music and where it originated.

North Africa

The music of North Africa was strongly influenced by the music of ancient Egypt and the early Arabs. Although it is one of the least popular forms of contemporary African music, it is historically important and merits a good look at by all those interested in traditional music.

Sub-Saharan Music

No music is more purely African than music that originated in Sub-Saharan Africa. Though many regions were influenced by other nations, Sub-Saharan music remains quintessentially African. Because writing and reading came late to parts of Africa, this music was created as a form of communication. In time, it became an interesting and exciting, communal way to celebrate and mark several major milestones in a person's life. For example, there are literally hundreds of African songs and music that celebrate marriage, childbirth or even hunting parties.

Music is also played to scare off evil spirits and to pay homage to deceased ancestors. African music of this type is almost always accompanied by a specific dance or ceremony. It is often performed by professional musicians who have knowledge and experience with ceremonial music.

Because music from Sub-Saharan Africa focused on communal singing, it was one of the earliest to emphasize the use of harmony and structured singing. These singing methods ranged from simple rhythmic structures to incredibly complex and elaborate structures based on improvisation and several variations.

Instruments

Though stringed instruments, bells, flutes and even xylophones were all used in traditional African music, there is nothing more important than the basic African hand drum. In fact, there are literally dozens of drums that are played on different occasions. A few of the most popular drums that are used in a traditional African musical include: bougarabou, tama talking drums, djembe, water drums and a many different kinds of ngoma drum that are played in parts of Central and Southern Africa.

These drums are almost always accompanied by singers or choruses who often keep time with rattles, shakers, woodsticks, bells or by simply clapping their hands' or stumping their feet. - 29874

The Phantom of the Opera is a marvelous and poetic performance that will push you through every feeling possible, from terror, to glee, to the pits of depression and back. As you attend this musical masterpiece, remember your opera glasses, to make sure you catch every last detail

Our Story begins in the nineteenth century, and the curtains open to reveal that two business men have purchased an old theater house which is haunted by a spirit. This spirit is that of a genius construction worker who helped build the opera house by the name of Erik. The reality of the matter is that Erik is not in fact a phantom but was one who was disfigured from birth. To cover the disfigurement of his face the Phantom of the Opera wears the mask that we all know so well today.

As time goes on the Phantom come to one of the performers; Christine, and tells her that her father who has passed away, has sent him from heaven to give her voice lessons. The Phantom begins to train her through the walls of her dressing room, as these take place over the course of time Christine becomes a remarkable singer, and takes the leading role in the opera.

As Christine is performing one night on stage, Christine faints, and a man in the audience comes to save her. This man Raoul, we find out is a childhood friend of Christine, and begins to fall in love with her. Raoul begins to attend her performances, gifting her with flowers, and visiting with her often.

Jealousy of Christine and Raoul begins to consume Erik, for the Phantom has also fallen in love with Christine. Erik can no longer restrain himself from meeting in person with Christine. When he finally appears in her dressing room, he does so wearing the famed mask. He then takes Christine deep within the catacombs of the opera house to his secret home.

Our heroine becomes angry and scared as she finds that Erik will not let her leave his world. After some argument Erik promises that he will release her after five days. He then gives Christine a tour of his lair, which is bizarre and twisted. Make sure you have your opera glasses at this point to make sure you don't miss a think

Christine cannot wait to see just who Erik is and why the mask is on his face. She grabs his mask and quickly takes it off during a remarkable duet. Grab your theatre glasses so you may get a glimpse of Erik's face. The lights may be too dimmed but it is worth a try! More chills will be sent down your spine with the screaming from the horrible site revealed. This deception angers Erik who now thinks he will not let Christine leave his spooky home. Erik so wants Christine to love him and you can feel his passion.

Opera Glasses and Hairspray: A Musical Review

By Jeff Bridges

Hairspray, is a musical set in Maryland 1962. Our story revolves around Tracy, an overweight high schooler, Tracy would love to become famous, and is prepared to do something about it. This musical is fast-paced, and colorful, to make sure that you don't miss a beat, remember to bring along your opera glasses.

Tracy hears on the television that The Corny Collins Show is having a dance contest and she excitedly wants to enter the contest. Her overweight mother frowns at the idea. (You may have heard actor John Travolta played this part in the movie Hairspray.) Tracy's mother is just trying to protect her dear daughter out of love as she does not want people to make her daughter a joke for being overweight. Plus, her mother thinks the show plays racist music.

Finally Tracy makes it to the big dance audition, thanks to the permission of her father, Wilbur. As she is auditioning she meets a popular boy named Link Larkin. At this point you will want to make sure you use your opera glasses, as you will want to catch the expression on Tracy's face, you will see her face light up, maybe in the same way yours did in high school. Our hero begins to daydream that she and Link will end up together. At this point in the musical, she sings a wonderful song about her dream. But as you knew would happen, her dream is shattered when she finds that she did not make the cut on the show, for the same reason that her mother suspected, her weight.

Broken hearted Tracy returns to school, but her troubles do not end there, almost immediately Tracy if given detention, due to her hair being so large, that those who sat behind her, could not even see past her! For this reason, the musical Hairspray, is given its name.

As Tracy sits in detention feeling sorry for herself she meets a nice black boy named Seaweed, Seaweed is a great dancer, and teaches Tracy some amazing dance moves. A dance party is scheduled for the school, and Tracy decides to attend despite her recent run of very bad luck. This time Tracy's luck is about to change, attending the dance, is the owner of the Corny Collins Show, the show that is to feature the dance contest, as he watches the dancers he notices the moves that Tracy puts on, he falls in love with her dance style, and chooses Tracy to dance on his show. Tracy is ecstatic to find out that at long last she will be on the show! Make sure you are using your opera glasses at this point.

Again after all this Tracy finds more good news, Link Larkin, the love of her life is to sing a romantic song to her on the show! Amber, who is another girl that attends Tracy's school is also in love with Link, finds out, and decides to take her rage out on on Tracy, cruelty ensues, including knocking Tracy out with a volleyball.

As we continue with the play, Tracy is invited to record shop that Seaweed's mother owns, all during the play, Tracy continues to grow close to Seaweed, and is upset to find out that the show that she is about to go on, only allows black people to attend their shows once a month, on "Negro Day" because of this Tracy finds herself fighting for black rights, and helping her best friend, the ending of Hairspray the musical is sure to please, but you will have to attend to find out.

Hairspray is a delight to attend, and a bigger delight to hear, it is no wonder it made such a run on Broadway, Remember to bring your opera glasses to catch every last expression, and the wonderful costumes. This is truly a performance to cherish. - 29874

Review:Wicked the Musical with Opera Glasses

By Jeff Bridges

Wicked the musical is absolutely brilliant. We have all watched The Wizard of Oz, made in 1939, growing up every year. Now everyone can watch The Wizard of Oz anytime they please if they purchase the DVD.

As I sat attended this performance, my thoughts were continually drawn back to the opera glasses I was using for the performance. The costumes through the glasses were delightful, the singing amazing, the characters entrancing, and stage props amazing. Without opera glasses I am sure that I would have missed out on much of the performance, so to full enjoy the experience when you attend, make sure you remember to bring them.

As you begin the story, you start to learn the origin of The Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch Really was. You will learn about the childhoods' of each of these women, this is a story that is sure to surprise.

You will be surprised at the twists and turns of your feelings on these two characters. In my view, Glinda the good witch was not so perfect after all. Growing up Glinda is one of those spoiled and popular young girls; where as the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, has a terrible childhood. Her childhood is terrible due to her green skin color and people making fun of her. The Wicked Witch of the West has no mother growing up. Elphaba is raised only by her father. You will see the good things that Elphaba actually does. After the end of the masterpiece, you may want to purchase a t-shirt, hat, or a sweatshirt of the Wicked Witch of the West. Most places have Wicked items for sale after the musical. With the touching music you may end up purchasing a CD for your listening pleasure.

Wicked is an award winning Tony musical and deserves every praise it is given. Although the New York Times did not give Wicked favorable reviews, just ask anyone who has seen Wicked. You are sure to get a smile with either the word or words "excellent", "magnificent", "so good you have to see it!" and more. opera glasses will make the most out of your viewing pleasure.

Wicked has been hailed as the masterpiece of the year. As this article is being written, Wicked is on its second national tour. Wicked has broken records in box office after box office. As of yet if you have not seen Wicked, you are missing a wonderful show, that you will not soon forget. Buy tickets as soon as possible, although, truth be told, you will have plenty of opportunities to see the performance, as I am sure it will be around for years. Opera glasses are the best way to enjoy Wicked the musical. - 29874

Opera Glasses- A Look Through History

By Jeff Bridges

Have you been at a concert or in a theater and wished you could see the stage better? You should consider getting a pair of opera glasses. They are more than just beautiful and classic pieces of history. Modern opera glasses can help you see what is going on around you at any performance. This need has not changed since the 1800's when they became popular with people attending the Paris opera.

It went far beyond simply getting a good look at the stage from the affordable seats. If you were at the opera you were also there to be seen. This was because it was an important social event. Because of this, many people spent just as much time looking at the audience as they did the stage. A simple and fashionable way of magnifying the action was needed and opera glasses were invented.

Opera glasses quickly became more than just ways to see the stage. A night at the opera was simply more than just an evening out. People came to the opera to be seen, and to make important social connections. It was critical to be able to see who was sitting with whom and what people were doing during the performance. Many people spent more of the evening scanning the audience than they did watching the drama onstage.

Because of this, anything connected to the opera could become a status symbol. Opera glasses were no exception. A person attending the theater often had a pair made of expensive materials such as gold or enamel. The outsides of the glasses were often highly decorated. Cases to keep the glasses in were often highly decorated as well. Different variations came into being including lorgnette models that had an attached handle and folding models that were quite compact.

Modern opera glasses are much the same as they were in the beginning. They still come in several different models. Opera glasses are still popular as well. They are not hard to find but it may take a bit of looking on your part. You should start your search in stores which sell binoculars. A camera store may have some or they may be able to order them for you.

One thing to look at when selecting your opera glasses is what the level of magnification is. Unlike a telescope or high powered binoculars, you will want to make sure that there is a fairly low level of magnification. A 3x magnification factor is considered ideal. This allows you to get a large field of view and it will keep shaking from hand movement as low as possible.

The actual style you choose is a matter of preference. Do you like the traditional look of the lorgnette? Are you interested in a style which folds down very small? You can also look at the accessories that are out there including straps and carrying pouches.

If visibility at concerts and plays is important to you, you should consider a pair of opera glasses. They are so much more than simply outdated viewing devices. They can find a way to make any stage performance you view clearer and much more rewarding. - 29874

Opera Glasses and Shear Madness: a Comedic Review

By Jeff Bridges

If you are planning on seeing the comedy play Shear Madness make sure you bring your Opera Glasses. In reviewing this wonderful performance I must first make sure that you are prepared for aching cheeks, and stomach muscles that will be sore for a week. I loved Shear Madness, Never have I laughed so hard in my life!

The play begins in a unisex hair salon; there are many types of people at coming in and out of the salon. We see many stereotypes, we see the dumb blond, homosexual hair dresser (played by John McGivern in the performance I attended.), the police officers, a high class woman, and of course the traditional red hot hunk of a man, which makes John McGivern's character giggle with delight. In this scene we get the first bits of comedy. All of the characters seem to be sharing the most well guarded secrets with the hairdressers; much like as is found in the real world.

Shear Madness is truly an evolutionary play; this is because it is always changing! What I mean by this, is that many of the words that are spoken in the play are not actually in the script but rather are given as improvisations by gifted comedians, in fact, much of the things talked about in the play focuses on current local and world news, you will never know what to expect. One of the things I found most amusing about this performance, is that many times, actors are caught off guard by the other actor's improvised lines, and you see them trying to contain their own laughter. For this you will surely want to bring your opera glasses as not to miss a beat!

Unexpectedly during the play one of the actors will speak directly to a person or people in the audience to ask for opinions. You may even find yourself yelling out the answers. You must understand that you answer may vary from your neighbors, which adds an exciting new element to this wonderful performance. I do advise you to be careful if you find yourself in the first two or three rows, as you may become the topic of one of the jokes, remember though this is all in good humor.

The hair salon is really just a front for the real story, for not too far into the play we find that owner of the hair salon has been murdered. The owner lived in an apartment above the salon before she was murdered, and the plot rapidly develops into a murder mystery. As you are in attendance undoubtedly you will find yourself trying to unravel the mystery behind the murder to see if you are the first to discover the true killer. Make sure that you bring your opera glasses along, to ensure that you don't miss a single beat in this thriller.

Here is where Shear Madness gets fun. The owner of the salon is the one that is always murdered in this play, but the killer will vary from performance to performance, based on clues presented. Also the audience, based on the clues chooses who the murderer must be. This may sound odd, but is a very funny development. Many (like me) see the play over and over so that they can see the different endings!

The play Shear Madness is actually one of the longest running non musical plays being attended today. Many very popular critics such as The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, and reviewed this play, and have written wonderful things about it. There is no doubt you too will love this play, and want to see it again and again.

You will want to bring your Opera glasses as you will not want to miss one entertaining moment of Shear Madness. Opera glasses will ensure that you will capture each and every laugh. - 29874
