By Peggy Ryersen

Dancing is great exercise and it is wonderful hobby. When you decide that you would like to learn to dance, it is a good idea to choose one style of dance to learn. There are many options so it will take a little consideration for you to find the style of dance that you like.

To begin with you will want to look at your options. Each style of dance has its own different characteristics and music. Ballet is a slow dance that is focused mainly on technique. Ballroom dancing includes a variety of styles and is usually done with a partner. Belly dancing is a sensual style of dance that can be great exercise. Hip hop is a modern dance style that is largely dependent on the beat of the music. Salsa is a Latin style of dance that involves moving with the rhythm. Tap dancing is a classic style of dance that focuses on timing and beats.

After you see the options available to you will need to choose one for you. You should take into consideration what your goal is. Did you want to lose weight, dance just for fun or do you want to be in competitions eventually. Perhaps all you want is a hobby. You will be able to decide once you know what your goals are.

Another thing to take into consideration is your own physical capability. There are some types of dancing that need a lot of flexibility, whereas others require balance or coordination. You need to find a dance style that is compatible with your natural capabilities so that you can get off to a good start and sooner start to learn the actual techniques of the chosen dance style.

Once you have narrowed down your abilities and goals it is time to select which appeals to you most. Hip hop music may be your thing or you have the lean shape of a ballerina. Look at the pros and cons of each so you can make your dance selection. Just be sure to make a choice that you like and appeals to you so you will enjoy it.

If you are still having trouble narrowing down your style of dance then try some styles out. You may be able to attend a dance class as a guest and try it out to see if you enjoy it. Sometimes simply trying out a dance style can be enough to get you hooked on a dance style.

Once you choose the style of dance that you want to learn you need to choose dance instructor. You will usually either have the option of learning in a class or getting private instruction. Consider your preference and comfort with each option and also think about the cost. In most cases private lessons will be more expensive than group options.

Learning to dance can be a lot of fun. It is a great way to exercise and keep your body healthy. Once you find a style of dance that you really like, you can spend a lot of time learning and perfecting your style. You may even end up having the option to compete in dance competitions. - 29874
